Brooch Bouquet for Wedding Day!

From the moment I first laid eyes upon a brooch bouquet I knew it would be an element I would incorporate into my wedding. For those of you thinking “What the heck is a brooch bouquet?”  I would be happy to elaborate! A brooch bouquet can be used in lieu of a floral/bridal bouquet. They are comprised of sentimental brooches, family heirlooms, pins, clips and jewels, etc.  Roll it all together with some ribbon and lace and viola! … You have a beautiful keepsake!
After I made the decision to forgo fresh flowers and embrace the brooch bouquet, I sent messages to my family and my friends and invited them to be a part of the bouquet by contributing a special piece. The goal was simple: I wanted a bouquet that included pieces from the most important people in my life, to represent me on one of the most important days of my life.
It wasn’t too long after I sent my message out that the brooches started coming in. My mother of course was the first responder. (I actually could have assembled an entirely separate bouquet just with the pins she sent in!) She was quickly followed by other family and soon-to be family members including all four grandmothers, mother in-law, aunts, cousins, bridesmaids, friends and coworkers. Soon I had all the ingredients necessary to assemble my brooch bouquet: a plethora of beaded, shiny, sparkly special mementos!
Some of my favorite pieces include the four brooches from both grandmothers on each side of our family. Brendan and I were very sad when we recently found out that niether of our last living grandparents will be able to attend the wedding.  While we know they will all be there in spirit, it is also very comforting to know that their physical presence will be represented in the bouquet that I will carry down the aisle on the day our two families become one.
I realize some brides might view these bouquets as “too busy” or “too eclectic”- I however see them as a timeless piece of art and love. Each pin has a story, a memory and a priceless sentimental value to me. Flowers eventually fade and wilt; however this bouquet will truly stand the test of time.
Thank you to my family and friends who participated in my special project. I am honored and humbled by your contributions.  We will love and cherish this beautiful reminder of our special day for years and years to come, just as we love and cherish each and every one of you!
